The Arras theme is a great and widely used theme for Wordpress. This is just a short post for anyone having trouble figuring how to add pictures to the slideshow on the front page.
The theme picks the images from thumbnails you've assigned to your posts. That's great I hear you say, but how do I do that? First off, the default dimensions of the slideshow are 645X245 pixels or something similar. So if you want a great looking image you should have one that matches those dimensions, or do what I do and 'embed' your picture in another one of that dimension and color the surround black/white/red . Here's a random snazzy one of a smokestack so you get the idea. (I've had to reduce this to 400 pixels across to fit it in here
Next we gotta 'assign' this picture to the post. On the 'new post' page or 'edit post' page in your admin panel, look down along the right hand side until you see the option 'add thumbnail'. Click on that and a pop up box appears. You can upload your picture or select one already uploaded using the options on the tabs. When your done, at the end of that pop-up box is an option 'use as thumbnail'. Click this, then 'save changes' and close the box. Publish or update your post and your image should now appear in the slideshow! |
