But the site denied that its purpose was to gather donations for the charities, saying in a blog post, "Unlike other groups in the space, we're not interested in the big red donate button. We're not interested in a one-time donation on your friend's birthday or a $10 text message to a cause or organization you never return to." Which makes the point of the site hard to spot. Can uses not follow their charities on Facebook? Via Twitter? What is the point of Jumo, other than trying to collect all charities under one roof? "When I founded Jumo earlier this year, I had simple vision: use networking technology to connect individuals and organizations working for global change," Hughes said in a blog post. "I wanted to build a network to help everyday people find, follow, and support those working day in and day out to make change happen in our communities and in regions around the world." "After months of work by a small, but incredibly dedicated and talented team, we launch the first beta version of Jumo," Hughes added. "What you see today is only the first step in what we build over the coming months and years. I'm looking forward to your thoughts and feedback." Feedback? Noble, but ultimately, not going anywhere. |
